clean eating...for babies?

Clean eating is a deceptively simple concept. At its simplest, clean eating is about eating whole foods, or "real" foods — those that are un- or minimally processed, refined, and handled, making them as close to their natural form as possible.

Commercially prepared baby food, organic or not, is processed to be very uniform. Unfortunately, this process can also produce a milder product...in flavor, color, and texture. Also, commercially prepared baby food tends to include preservatives like ascorbic acid and citric acid which are both synthetically made, or even lemon juice concentrate which can change the flavor of the food.

Small batch or artisanal baby food...or clean baby food...have more intense tastes, smells, and textures allowing for a more authentic experience with foods right from the start. By introducing these natural variables and intensities at the beginning, you are setting your little ones up to embrace different foods more easily and build a stronger, more robust palate.

When you move on to finger foods and self feeding, your little one has already experienced and embraced those natural variables and will be more willing to reach for and accept different flavors. While clean eating is a simple concept, it is incredibly beneficial to life-long, healthy eating when embraced early in development!
